It’s only our first week back and already there are big things happening in NYC and around the world. Rather than having our usual Friday meeting, we recommend you attend the annual Global Game Jam, the world wide 48 hour game making competition. The NYC portion of the jam will be held at the NYU Game Center, and all are welcome. Go to the event, create a team, and make something amazing.

The Kill Screen Dialogs
Fri 12/16 @ 7

Divided into three mini-conversations, the talks will explore three areas: artificial intelligence, with Dave Mark and Mary Flanagan; the feeling of digital objects, with Tabor Robak and Katherine Isbister; and games as space, with Casey Reas and Andy Nealen.

This Week: Play For Non-Profit
Fri 12/2 @6:30 – 9
12th Floor Lab, 6 E16th St

The New School Game Club, in conjunction with the New School Chapter of Association for International Development (AID), is hosting a panel about the relevance of games in the non-profit community. As games are increasingly used for outreach and education by non profit organizations, we need to ask ourselves a few questions. Are games appropriate uses of funds that could be used to buy medicine or other necessary supplies? How useful are they in an educational setting? Our panel of scientists, game designers, and NGO professionals will share their opinions on the topic, and we will have a question and answer session at the end.
